Immigration lawyers serving Surrey and the Lower Mainland
An immigration application is a legal record. Every date, job title and address becomes part of your file with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and an inconsistency between one application and the next can cause trouble years later.
Talk to a lawyer
Your first consultation is free, in person at our Surrey office. Evenings and Saturdays by appointment.
We help individuals and families with permanent residence, sponsorship, refugee claims and refusals. Because we also practise family law, we can advise when immigration and family issues overlap, such as when a sponsored relationship breaks down.

Learn moreWhat happens when immigration and family law overlap?
Separation does not cancel a sponsorship undertaking. A sponsor who separates remains financially responsible for the rest of the undertaking period. A sponsored spouse who has already become a permanent resident does not lose that status simply because the relationship ends.
Situations like these need advice on both areas of law at the same time, so that a step taken in one does not create a problem in the other.
Do I need a lawyer for an immigration application?
No. You can apply on your own, and many people do. Legal help matters most when your history is complicated, you have been refused before, there are admissibility concerns, or a mistake would be serious. Anyone you pay to represent you must be a member of a Canadian law society, a Quebec notary or a licensed immigration consultant.
How long will my application take?
IRCC publishes processing times for each type of application and updates them regularly. Actual times also depend on how complete the file is and whether IRCC asks for more information.
Can I travel while my application is being processed?
It depends on the application and your current status. Leaving Canada can affect some applications and your ability to return. Ask before you book.
